Luis Antonio Paulino wins the Inaugural Orchid Award

The inaugural Orchid Awards ceremony and the Orchid Awards International Cultural Forum were held in Beijing on September 8. Luis Antonio Paulino, the Brazilian director of the Confucius Institute of Hubei University at São Paulo State University, won the Friendship Envoy Award. The Orchid Awards, hosted by the China International Communications Group, aims to honor individuals and organizations from the entire cultural arena including literature, art, film and people-to-people exchanges.

Luis Antonio Paulino, professor at School of Philosophy and Science at São Paulo State University, participated in the founding of the Confucius Institute of Hubei University at São Paulo State University and has been serving as the Brazilian director since then. He is committed to the educational and cultural exchanges between China and Brazil, infusing vigor and vitality into China-Brazil friendship. He edits and publishes Chinese-Portuguese bilingual journals and distributes them to Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries, opening a window for Portuguese speakers to truly understand China.

According to Prof. Paulino, as the Brazilian director of the Confucius Institute, he is very grateful to Hubei University and Sao Paulo State University for building the first Confucius Institute in Brazil, which has brought improvements to the lives of many Brazilians over the past 15 years. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for this program which inspires him to make greater efforts for the friendship between China and Brazil.
