A delegation including Lisa Turner, Principal Policy Officer, International Policy and Partnerships at Manchester City Council, Hannah Andrew, Policy Officer, International Policy and Partnerships at Manchester City Council, and Olivia Hildebrand, Deputy Consul General of the British Consulate-General in Wuhan, paid a visit to Hubei University on April 14. Xie Hongxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hubei University, and Liu Zhihong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hubei University Committee and Vice President of Hubei University, met with the guests. Participants of the meeting included directors from International Office and Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute of Hubei University.

Xie Hongxing extended a warm welcome to the guests. He expressed that as Manchester and Wuhan are sister cities, Manchester Metropolitan University is an important partner of international cooperation for Hubei University, and Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute is a brand of educational and cultural exchanges built by both universities. He hoped that both universities would further strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint training for master and doctoral students and scientific research, and promote the exchanges between the two cities through cooperation, contributing to a closer friendship between the two peoples.
Olivia Hildebrand emphasized that the joint institute has set an example for UK-China educational collaborations as a signature project of higher education cooperation between Manchester and Wuhan. She also expressed hope that as the year 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relations between Manchester and Wuhan, both sides would further deepen cooperation and exchanges, making contributions to their economic and social development, friendship city relationship and friendly exchanges between China and the UK.
