“Geoscience” and “Social Sciences, General” of Hubei University have entered the world’s top 1% in the ESI rankings, according to the latest data issued by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) on May 8. So far, eight disciplines of Hubei University, including materials science, chemistry, engineering, botany and zoology, environment/ecology, biology and biochemistry, geoscience, and social sciences, have entered the world's top 1% in the ESI rankings with the number of disciplines in the top 1% ranking first among universities and colleges administrated by Hubei provincial government.
In recent years, with the strong support of Hubei University and the joint efforts of relevant schools, there has been a rapid rise in the potential values for geoscience and social sciences of Hubei University to enter the top 1% in the ESI rankings. A number of 269 articles of geoscience indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, including 15 highly cited papers, with a total of 6,181 citations, placing geoscience of Hubei University in the top 9.95‰. Meanwhile, 198 indexed articles of social sciences were included in the core collection of Web of Science, including 10 highly cited papers, with a total of 2,090 citations, making social sciences of Hubei University rank in the top 9.46‰.
