On the afternoon of October 1st, the establishment meeting of the new school council of Hubei University and its first meeting was held in the conference center. The HUBU leadership, members of the school council, leaders from relative departments and schools, undergraduates and postgraduate representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Jiang Tao, Vice-President of Hubei University.

In his speech, Shang Gang, party secretary of Hubei University, said that the establishment of the new school council is of great significance to the modern governance of Hubei University at the point of celebrating the 88th anniversary of Hubei University. School council is an important platform for  taking advice, consultation and discussion for the development of the university. He expressed his gratitude for council members’ support and trust as director. He would perform his duties in a responsible way, listen to the opinions of all parties, and work with everyone to continuously improve the level of governance of the university. He also asked members to be actively engaged in decision-making and consultation, to participate in the work of the school council, and to put forward opinions and suggestions for discipline and school development.

President Xie Hongxing said that as this year was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the establishment of the new school council has special significance. The school council has played an important role in China's higher education governance system. Historically, the school council was established as early as 1958. Today, its reorganization aims to further strengthen the university management and improve the university governance structure in a scientific, standardized and orderly way. We will make full use of the strength of alumni and take advise from all parties to make Hubei University a leader in the provincial universities.

Vice president Jiang Tao introduced the preparatory work of the school council and made a brief introduction of the new members. Vice president Qian Jianguo introduced "Norms of the Board of General Colleges and Universities" declared by Ministry of Education and "Regulations of the School Council of Hubei University(Draft)".

Shang Gang and Xie Hongxing conffered letters of appoint to the representatives of the new school council members. Bie Dunrong, Professor of Xiamen University and Yang Jian, executive director of Shenzhen alumni association, delivered speeches on the construction of the school council and the development of Hubei University respectively. The Rules of the School Council (Trial Implementation) were approved by all members of the school council.
