Recently, Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced the list of recognized engineering research centers for 2024. The “Hubei Provincial Engineering Research Center for Microbial Cell Factory,” led by Hubei University, was approved to establish. A total of 48 Hubei Provincial engineering research centers were recognized this time，with 15 headed up by universities.

The Microbial Cell Factory Hubei Provincial Engineering Research Center is jointly established by Hubei University, Wuhan Grand Hoyo Co., Ltd., Wuhan Sunhy Biology Co., Ltd., and Hubei Forbon Technology Co., Ltd.,. This research center takes the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the National Development and Reform Commission as its guiding framework, taking the development of enabling technologies, the creation of efficient cell factories, and the integration and optimization of biomanufacturing as its future development direction. It aims to focus on the development and application of cutting-edge technologies in in related fields. The center will combine talent cultivation and commercialization of the achievements to provide talent, technological, and public service platform support for the province’s bio-breeding industry, as well as promote the development of strategic emerging industries such as synthetic biology.

Hubei University will continue optimizing resource allocation, increase policy and financial support, strengthen team building, establish open and shared platforms, and focus on the research and development of core technology in key fields in the next step. It will promote the commercialization of the achievements and engineering application of innovative scientific and technological achievements, providing strong technological support and platform security for the province’s efforts to accelerate synthetic biology projects, develop future industries like multi-enzyme catalysis, and cultivate new quality productive forces in biomanufacturing.
