27 December, the national final of the 19th Asian Games of Bilingual Student Journalist Training Camp in Hangzhou 2022 came to an end. Cheng Si, student of the School of Foreign Languages of Hubei University, won the third prize under the guidance of teacher Xu Zhou.
The event was jointly organized by China Daily and the Publicity Department of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee. It aimed to find outstanding bilingual youth journalists for the Hangzhou Asian Games, encourage more young people to promote the Asian Games in Hangzhou, and tell China's story to the world. The event invited experts of English speech, journalism and media to conduct training and selection activities for the bilingual student journalists.
The event was divided into three stages to examine students' language expression and journalistic compilation skills. Cheng Si from the School of Foreign Languages of Hubei University was selected as a finalist in the national final owing to her excellent expression skills. The first round of the national final was a bilingual news compilation, and the second round was a four-minute speech on a topic with a two-minute on-the-spot questions. Cheng Si’s performance has won the praise of the judges.
Cheng Si said, "I have the habit of watching news, and young students today should pay more attention to current affairs and get informed of what is happening around us to broaden our horizons." She will become a junior reporter for the Hangzhou Asian Games and participate in on-site reporting. The School of Foreign Languages will take this competition as an opportunity to strengthen undergraduate English teaching, devote itself to enhancing students' breadth of knowledge and communication skills, and cultivate outstanding talents with broad horizons and spirit of innovation.
