The research team of Prof. Chen Chunqi and Prof. Guo Ruiting from the State Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Hubei University has published their latest research "Terpene Cyclases and Prenyltransferases: Structures and Mechanisms of Action" in ACS Catalysis (IF:12.22) as a cover article.
The research team of Prof. Chen Chunqi and Prof. Guo Ruiting has studied the terpenoids in sandalwood essential oil, analyzed the crystal structures of several sesquiterpene synthesis enzymes in sandalwood essential oil, and analyzed the structures of the complexes of these enzymes with sesquiterpene compounds to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of these enzymes. In addition, structural comparison and activity analysis revealed that all terpene synthases and cyclases had similar catalytic centres. The results provided an important basis for the in vitro synthesis of essential oils and new ideas for the study of terpene synthases.
Prof. Chen Chunqi and Prof. Guo Ruiting's team has been engaged in the research of molecular structure of industrial enzymes. Since joining the School of Life Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering of Hubei University, they have published their results in Nature Reviews Chemistry (IF: 30.628), Immunity (IF: 21.522 ), ACS Catalysis (IF: 12.22), Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF: 12.257) and Nature Communications (IF: 11.878), etc. They have also received support from the National Key Research and Development Program of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
