On October 21, Hubei University "14th Five-Year Plan" development meeting was held. The meeting introduced the basic idea of HUBU's "14th Five-Year Plan" and related work, and put forward clear requirements for the specific preparation of the plan. Present were President Liu Jianping, the deans of schools, and other heads of schools. Vice President Jiang Tao presided over the meeting.

The head of the Office of Development Planning and Discipline Construction introduced the situation of the 14th Five-Year Plan of HUBU from the aspects of guiding ideas, development objectives, development strategies, core indicators, major projects, planning system and other basic requirements. Heads from the Academic Affairs Office, the Institute of Science and Technology Development, the School of Business and the School of Materials Science and Engineering exchanged their ideas on the relevant work in the “14th Five-Year Plan”.

Liu Jianping pointed out in his speech that the "14th Five-Year Plan" period was a critical period for HUBU to promote deepening reform, building a high-level university and achieving great development, and it was very important to scientifically prepare and implement the "14th Five-Year Plan". We should not only have a blueprint and vision, but also practical plans for "14th Five-Year Plan".

Liu Jianping said that the planning of the “14th Five-Year Plan” was a process of gathering people's wisdom, a process that reflected determination, confidence and the will for development. We must seize the opportunities for development with resolute determination and will, and lead the future of HUBU.

It is reported that, during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, HUBU aims at "ranking among the top national disciplines and entering the top 100 among comprehensive universities", laying the foundation for building the university into a high-level comprehensive university with outstanding advantages in basic disciplines and distinctive features in application disciplines. We shall make HUBU a well-known university in China and in the world.

The “14th Five-Year Plan” of Hubei University will centre on the strategic goal, focuse on the double first-class standards, and gather the strength of building first-class disciplines, as a way to promote the continuous improvement of HUBU.

Before the meeting, HUBU issued a notice on the "14th Five-Year Plan Preparation Work Plan of Hubei University", which pointed out that HUBU has set up a leading group for the preparation of development plan and a working group for the preparation of the plan. The draft of development plan is expected to be finished in early 2021.
