The First Liberal Arts Seminar Held in Hubei University​

The first liberal arts seminar was held in Hubei University on April 29 .  The meeting aims to form a broader vision and pattern for the development of liberal arts, create a flourishing academic atmosphere, stimulate teachers' motivation and enthusiasm for scientific research, en hance the ability of Hubei University to pursue "first class universities and disciplines of the world", thus realizing the high-quality development of liberal arts. Attendees were all leaders of the school, directors of all departments and representatives of teachers. T he meeting was presided over by vice president Jiang Tao.

 


 

  

President Liu Jianping delivered a thematic speech, which covers the current situation and arrangements for the development of liberal arts in the following five years. According to him, founded in 1931, Hubei University boasts 90 years’ history and profound achievements in liberal arts, which is one of the most important part for the construction of  "first class universities and disciplines of the world" for our school. By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, there are five PhDs majors of first level in humanities and social sciences and 15 Masters in humanities and social sciences in HUBU. Besides, there are 12 liberal arts schools and nearly 800 liberal arts teachers, which indicates that HUBU is a school with impressive capacity in liberal arts. During the period of 13th Five-Year Plan, more than 110 national social science projects and 60 humanities and social science research projects of the Ministry of Education have been approved, which were 46 % and 30 % higher than those during the 12th Five-Year Plan period respectively.

 

  

 

At the meeting, the directors of School of History and Culture and School of Marxism, and the key teachers of School of Law and School of Business delivered speeches to share their point of view. They said that the meeting would be regarded as a precious opportunity to follow the blue print of school, and make joint efforts for the development of liberal arts. Then, the director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences introduced the “Development Plan of Humanities and Social Sciences of Hubei University (2021-2025) (Draft)”.

 

For the Development Plan, the school will further collect the opinions of departments of all levels, and eventually form an official document as the policy guidance of Hubei University in promoting the high-quality development of liberal arts in the 14th Five-Year Plan.
