The preliminary round of the 20th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Brazil was held online on the morning of June 6, Brazil local time. The competition was organized by Center for Language Education and Cooperation, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Confucius Institute of Hubei University at Sao Paulo State University.

The 13 contestants gave speeches and attractive talent shows in the competition. The speeches involve the narration of their understanding of the contest's theme——"All Under Heaven are of One Family", showing their love and passion for the Chinese language and culture, and their achievements in pursuing their dreams in learning Chinese.

In the competition, Luís Victor Mota Freitas from the Confucius Institute of Hubei University at Sao Paulo State University won the first prize, and would represent Brazil to participate the Global Final of the Chinese Bridge Competition. Another contestant, Ian Geraldo Pedrini, won the third prize.

Chen Peijie, Chinese Consul General in Sao Paulo, said that only by adhering to the spirit of "All Under Heaven are of One Family" can the people of the world create a better future. "President Xi Jinping proposed to strengthen exchanges among civilizations, seek common ground while putting aside differences, and learn from each other. I believe that this is exactly the spirit of the Chinese Bridge Competition", said Professor Paulino, Brazilian director of the Confucius Institute at Sao Paulo State University. Shu Jianping, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, thought highly of the contestants, saying that they are brilliant Chinese learners, and leaders for spreading Chinese culture at the same time. Moreover, those young people had a deep understanding of the common feelings of human beings. He hoped that all of the participants contribute persistent efforts and achieve great progress in Chinese-learning.
