On 6 December, the National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences published the list of major projects approved by the National Social Science Fund in 2021. Two projects of our university were listed: the one is “Investigation and Research on Water Culture of Southwest Ethnic Groups” that led by Professor Zheng Xiaoyun, School of History and Culture of our University, the other one is “Phonological Research and Database Construction of Rare Homophone Collection Literature in Chinese Non-pronunciation Books from the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China” that led by Professor Zhou Saihua, School of Chinese Language and Literature.
Through collecting and sorting out the historical documents and current data of water culture of ethnic groups in Southwest China, “Investigation and Research on Water Culture of Southwest Ethnic Groups” analyzes the connotation and characteristics of water culture of ethnic groups, deepens the research on the relationship between water culture and environmental protection and sustainable development, and puts forward the concept and path of inheriting and protecting water culture of ethnic groups and constructing the overall system of water culture in Southwest China, serving the major national development strategies and the construction of ecological civilization. At the same time, it will also provide an example for the inheritance of regional water culture and the construction of a new era, and for deepening the research on regional water culture in China.
By collecting and collating homophone clustering documents of Mandarin and dialects from Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China, “Phonological Research and Database Construction of Rare Homophone Collection Literature in Chinese Non-pronunciation Books from the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China” reveals their phonology and characteristics, in order to enrich the content of phonetic history in Ming and Qing Dynasties and promote the study of Chinese phonetic history.
It is reported that a total of 348 projects in 151 units were approved, our school got 2 projects, the number of approved projects ranked 34th in the country, and the third in Hubei Province. In addition, “Wanli Tea Road——Tea Industry Data Collection and Research“, a major project chaired by Professor Huang Baiquan of the School of History and Culture, passed the mid-term examination and received a rolling funding of 0.6 million yuan. Up to now, our school has received 27 projects from the National Social Science Fund, including 19 annual and youth projects, 1 art project, 1 special study of ideological and political courses in colleges, 4 post-funding projects and 2 major projects.
