Liu Zhihong, a doctoral supervisor, is Dean of School of Health Sciences and Engineering, Hubei University, the director of Key Laboratory for the Synthesis and Application of Organic Functional Molecules, Ministry of Education, and the director of Molecular Diagnosis and Precision Therapy Research Center, Hubei University. He was funded by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2016, included in the Innovative Talents Promotion Plan of Ministry of Science and Technology, PRC in 2017, and selected as the Leading Talent in Science and Technology in the National Special Support Program for High level Talents in 2018.

Since working in Hubei University, Liu Zhihong has built a multidisciplinary and influential research team, focusing on the molecular diagnosis and adjuvant therapy of major diseases, including brain diseases and tumors. His team is committed to interdisciplinary research, laying stress on integrating innovative chemical measurement methods and material preparation techniques into biomedical basic research and clinical practice. Therefore, it has found a distinctive path in research, which is based on photoelectric and chemical sensing technology, developing high throughput multi-target rapid testing-technology, and developing new equipment for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) of major diseases .

In recent years, Liu Zhihong and his team, following the research approach featured a chain process of production, study, research and practice, have injected fresh impetus of sustained innovation ability into the basic theoretical research and applied basic research in this field. Liu Zhihong has co-edited 5 academic monographs, owned 15 applied and authorized patents for invention, and headed over 10 scientific research projects including a Major Scientific Instrument Development Project and a General Project from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a project from The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

“In the future, our team will delve into the area of molecular diagnosis and precision therapy, especially explore innovative solutions for major brain diseases, hoping to achieve more breakthroughs.”Liu Zhihong stated. He added that the team would constantly bring in distinguished young scholars, to build a research team with international competitiveness.
