Xie Hongxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hubei University，led a six-member delegation to universities in the UK, Greece and Poland from November 6 to 14, aiming to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation.

In Manchester, UK, Xie Hongxing met with Paul Andrews, Mayor of Manchester, Lord Mandelson, Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), and Professor Malcolm Press, Vice-Chancellor of MMU, and called on  students who are on an international students exchange programe in MMU. Xie Hongxing extended his congratulations to the 200th anniversary celebration of MMU and the complement of Dalton Building, and briefed recent developments of Hubei University, and achievements of the Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute, Hubei University. Both sides shared their insights on joint cultivation of master's and doctoral students and scholarly exchanges, signed a cooperation agreement of a 4+1 talent joint cultivation programme. In Greece, Xie Hongxing conducted a meeting with Dr. Theophilos Ioannides, Director of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT) and expressed his congratulations to the 40th anniversary of the Institute. Both sides discussed the cooperation in biology, materials science and other fields, and renewed the Memorandum of Understanding. Xie Hongxing also met with Professor Sophia Papaioannou, Vice-Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and reached agreement on establishing cooperation between two universities.

In Poland, Xie Hongxing held a discussion with Górski, Chairman  of Jagiellonian University Council, and Joanna, Vice-Rector of Jagiellonian University, on matters concerning Confucius Classroom, student exchanges, scientific and technological cooperation. Two universities renewed cooperation memorandum. In addition, the delegation toured Confucius Classroom at the Jagiellonian University, observed a Chinese model lesson and interacted with international Chinese language teachers and volunteers there.

Xie Hongxing also made visits to the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Hellenic Republic and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Poland. He met with Tang Rui, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, Lai Bo, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Greece and Sun Linjiang, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Poland, and exchanged views on cooperation in education, culture and other fields.
