The academic summer program of Manchester Metropolitan University, themed around “Smart Building with Sony innovation”, was launched at Hubei University on June 16. Liu Zhihong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hubei University Committee and Vice President of Hubei University, Ian Jones, the head of International Partnerships of Manchester Metropolitan University, and the heads of International Office and Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute of Hubei University attended the opening ceremony. The event also welcomed over 20 faculty members and students from the UK, and representatives of Hubei University’s faculty and students.

On behalf of Hubei University, Liu Zhihong extended a warm welcome to the faculty and students of Manchester Metropolitan University. He stated that Hubei University has sent several groups of students to Manchester Metropolitan University for exchange and study. The visit of the UK students this time marks the beginning of a two-way exchange for students from two universities. He also expressed hope that the UK students will have an enjoyable learning experience at Hubei University and gain an in-depth understanding of the culture and the development of China.

Ian Jones emphasized the value of the summer program, expressed his hope that it would further promote mutual understanding between Chinese and British students and strengthen collaboration between the two universities. He encouraged the UK students to actively participate in the activities of the summer program, to broaden their horizons and share their insights and experiences with others upon returning to the UK.

Faculty and student representatives from both Hubei University and the Manchester Metropolitan University delivered remarks, expressing their expectations for the summer program.
