The winners of the 5th Science and Technology Award of the China Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology Commercialization was recently announced. A project led by professor Yang Shihui from the School of Life Sciences,Hubei University,received the first prize of Technology Innovation.

The Science and Technology Award of the China Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology Commercialization is officially approved by the National Office for Science and Technology Awards. It’s a national social science and technology award, aiming to honor individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the technological innovation and industrialization.
The awarded project was a collaboration led by Hubei University, together with Dalian University of Technology and Beijing Tsingke Biotechnology Co., Ltd.. It holds significant importance for promoting the upgrade of China's bio-manufacturing industry, ensuring food security, and supporting the achievement of the country's "dual carbon" goals.
Hubei University has long been dedicated to the field of bio-manufacturing, focusing on overcoming bottlenecks in key and core technologies. The university took the lead in establishing the Hubei Association for Science and Technology and built the Wuhan Pilot Platform for Intelligent Bio-Manufacturing in Synthetic Biology. It also collaborated with leading enterprises to establish the Hubei Synthetic Biology Industrial Technology Innovation Consortium. The university has undertaken three national key R&D programs and 12 major research projects, achieving a "grand slam" of publications in Cell, Nature, and Science. It has received 13 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Awards, including three first prizes. Additionally, Hubei University has incubated 15 high-tech companies, such as Wuhan Ruijiakang Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and supported over 30 enterprises like Lifecome Biochemistry Co., Ltd., generating economic benefits of more than 10 billion yuan.
