On May 10th, the commendation conference for the promotion and popularization of the national common language and script and the meeting of all members of the State Language Commission in 2023 were held in Beijing. The Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission commended advanced groups and individuals for the first time for the promotion and popularization of the national common language and script. Wang Ruoxuan, a teacher in the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Hubei University and Director of the Language Commission Office, won the honor of “Advanced Individual”.

Wang Ruoxuan has been working on the promotion and popularization of the national common language and script for 24 years. She insists on teaching Mandarin for normal students, maintains excellent teaching evaluations for years and guides students to win national language competitions for many times. Serving as the head of the Mandarin testing station and a national-level Mandarin tester, she participates in Mandarin training and testing for more than 50,000 people. Also, she actively participates in the work of the National Language Promotion Base, to host Hubei Province “Recite China” classical recitation competition twice with her teams, and to contribute herself in poverty alleviation and other social services. For three times, she works abroad as a leader of Confucius Institute and also a Chinese teacher. For many times, she directs foreign students to win awards in the “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Language Competition. She vigorously spreads and promotes Chinese language and culture and tells the Chinese story.
According to the report, this is the first commendation activity in the 22 years since the implementation of the Law of the State General Language and Culture, and is an important initiative to implement the strategic plan of the 20th Party Congress to “increase the promotion of the Chinese general language and culture”. The total of 178 advanced groups, and 294 advanced individuals were honored, among whom 4 groups and 8 individuals from Hubei Province.
