China Daily, a leading English-language newspaper in China, devoted a full page for two English articles on October 4, 2023, reporting a newly-published photo collection titled“Images of the Jinuo Ethnic Group: Memory of the Great Era”published by Zheng Xiaoyun, a professor at the School of History and Culture of Hubei University.
The first article“The peak of his profession”records Zheng's more than 40 years of continuous research and his thoughts on the history, culture and development of the“56th ethnic group”—the Jinuo group, and his personal experiences in the great development and changes of the Jinuo group over the past four decades. The second article“Picturing a life long disappeared to keep it in the present”introduces content of photo collection, featuring more than 300 photographs taken by Zheng that depict the social, economic and cultural conditions of the Jinuo group in the 1980s. For many traditional cultures that have already disappeared today, these precious photographic materials undoubtedly bring the vanished history of the Jinuo group back to the modern times, which is of high value.
