The forum on the special project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, titled "Recent Advances and Applications of Mass Spectrometry Analytical Techniques in Single Cell Metabolomics," was held in Wuhan from August 9th to 11th.

The project was jointly hosted by Professor Liu Zhihong at Hubei University, and Professor Wang Xiayan at Beijing University of Technology. Nearly 40 experts and scholars from  universities, research institutes and hospitals across China participated in the forum.

Yang Junlin and Zhan Shige, Executive Deputy Directors of the Chemical Sciences Department at the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Du Yun, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, and Xie Hongxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hubei University, attended the opening ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Yang Junlin emphasized that it is currently a crucial time of a new round of scientific and technological revolution. The National Natural Science Foundation of China continues to deepen the systematic reform for the funding of scientific foundation projects, guiding scholars to concentrate on research areas targeted at real problems.

Du Yun introduced Hubei’s current situation of technological innovation, and the development trends in chemistry discipline. Xie Hongxing, on behalf of Hubei University, expressed his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the attending leaders and experts. He gave a brief introduction to the development of Hubei University, hoping that the seminar could serve as an opportunity to provide a interface for cross-discipline researches on chemistry and life sciences, medical sciences, promoting researches and applications in the field of single cell metabolomics.

The forum included a thematic roundtable meeting, with experts exchanging views on development strategies and approaches in the field of mass spectrometry analytical techniques in single cell metabolomics under the new circumstances.

The Chemical Sciences Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China also organized a symposium on “National Major Instrumentation Development Projects," under the theme of repositioning, strengthening fundamentals, pursuing originality, and promoting applications, to enhance the funding effectiveness of National Major Instrumentation Development Projects and to advance talent support in the field. Experts at the symposium also offered feedback and suggestions on target orientation, talent support, and project management of National Major  Instrumentation Development Projects.
