The final of the 7th China Postgraduate IC Innovation Competition, guided by Department of Degree Management & Postgraduate Education (Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee), and hosted by the Association of Chinese Graduate Education and the Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science and Technology, was held at Huazhong University of Science and Technology from August 13 to 17. The team led by Professor Wan Meilin and Song Min from the School of Microelectronics at Hubei university won the second prize, scaling a new height in this competition.

A total of 970 teams consisting of 858 teachers and 2783 postgraduates from 169 universities participated in this competition. After several rounds of qualification trials, including written test of basic questions, computer design, defense, and roadshow, 165 teams advanced to the offline final. Ouyang Xintong, Zhang Zhen, and Wang Pengyu at Hubei University won the second prize in the national competition with their project "Core Shield—A Chip-PCB Hybrid SC PUF Used for Anti-Desoldering and Depackaging-Attack Protection". The proposed chip-PCB hybrid SC PUF is verified in security chips by using different processes, including the traditional 28-nm CMOS process and the advanced 14- and 7-nm FinFET CMOS processes. With the help of chip-PCB hybrid SC PUF, the comprehensive protection of the overall hardware environment for both the chip and the PCB hardware systems can be realized.
