A spectacular concert blending Chinese and Western percussion music was hosted at the Sao Paulo State University on September 23. The concert, organized by the Confucius Institute of Hubei University at Sao Paulo State University, aimed at celebrating the 20th anniversary of establishment of the Confucius Institute brand and the 50th anniversary of China-Brazil diplomatic relations.

Tian Yuzhen, deputy consul general of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sao Paulo, remarked that over the past 50 years since the establishment of China-Brazil diplomatic relations, China and Brazil have further enhanced political mutual trust, yielded fruitful pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and enjoyed vibrant culture and people-to-people exchanges between China and Brazil. Since its founding, the Confucius Institute at Sao Paulo State University has dedicated itself to a wide range of cultural activities that vividly showcase and promote fine Chinese culture, making contributions to the friendship between the two countries. Tian expressed hope that the faculty and students of the institute would further improve the cultural communication capacity, and promote the exchanges and mutual learning between the two civilizations, thereby contributing to China-Brazil diplomatic relations and friendship between two peoples in the new era.

Flávio Dias Patricio, Director of the International Relations Office of Sao Paulo, highlighted music as a universal language transcending boundaries, races, and cultural differences. He also emphasized the important role the Confucius Institute plays in the 50-year China-Brazil diplomatic relations. So such an unparalleled concert was launched to spread Chinese culture, showcasing the exchanges and collaboration between the two countries in culture and arts, so as to open a new chapter in China-Brazil friendship.

In the concert, young Chinese percussionists alongside Brazilian percussion ensemble presented many Chinese classics, including "Dance of the Golden Snake," "Horse Race," and "Jasmine." The concert, integrating Chinese Big Drum with Brazilian indigenous instrument, bearing Chinese ancient poetry and modern percussion joining hands, offered a high-quality musical feast to celebrate Chinese and Brazilian art, deeply enthralled the audience and triggered thunderous applause.
