Dragon & Lion Dance Art Troupe of Hubei University performs in the UK

Dragon & Lion Dance Art Troupe of Hubei University performed at Manchester Metropolitan University to celebrate the university's 200th anniversary and the nearing completion of its new Dalton building on November 6 (local time). Liang Yan, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, Professor Mark Sterling, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University, and Xie Hongxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hubei University, attended the event, along with over 200 faculty and students from the university.

In his speech, Xie Hongxing emphasized that Hubei University and Manchester Metropolitan University have been strategic partners for over a decade, achieving numerous accomplishments as they advance hand in hand. He expressed the hope for further strengthening cooperation and friendship the two universities to jointly write a new chapter in Sino-British educational cooperation.

The performance, themed " Depicting Jingchu by Poems ", featured a dragon dance titled "Jingchu Shined by Dragons", a lion dance titled "Jingchu Leapt over by Lions ", a Guzheng solo titled "Fighting the Typhoon", martial arts performances titled "The Border of Two Opposing Powers" and " Wudang Wushu", a Jingchu-style dance named "Ode to the Tangerine", martial dances titled "Jingchu Poetry and Painting" and " Martial Arts & Heroic Figure" as well as songs titled "Zhigaside"( pronounced in the Chinese dialect of Enshi, Hubei, which means "very good"), "Love Song in the Clouds" and " The Roaring Yangtze Flows Ever Eastward." These performances fully showcased the characteristics of Hubei and the charm of Jingchu culture. Among them, the performance by DE OLIVEIRA MANACERO MIGUEL (Chinese name: Ma Feilong), a Brazilian student at Hubei University, received an enthusiastic reception.

During their visit to Manchester Metropolitan University, Dragon & Lion Dance Art Troupe of Hubei University also engaged in three in-depth exchanges with faculty and students there. Over 100 faculty and students from Manchester Metropolitan University personally experienced dragon dancing, lion dancing, martial arts, and other performance activities, facilitating deeper friendship and cultural exchanges.

The troupe will also perform in Nottingham and Aberdeen of the UK, as well as Kraków, Toruń, and Warsaw of Poland.
