Recently, Trends in Biotechnology, a flagship journal published by Cell Press, announced the appointment of five new editorial board members from China, among which is Professor Yang Shihui from the School of Life Sciences, Hubei University. As a high-impact review journal with a history of 40 years, Trends in Biotechnology is considered as one of the leading journals in biotechnology and focuses on the interdisciplinary cutting-edge frontiers of biotechnology.

Professor Yang Shihui has long been dedicated to research in microbial metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, bioenergy and green biomanufacturing of major platform chemicals. He currently serves as Executive Editor of Biodesign Research, as well as a committee member and editor for journals including Synthetic Biology Journal and Chinese Journal of Biotechnology.

As the Lead Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program for Synthetic Biology, he has led his team to break through technology bottlenecks in the rational design and efficient modification of industrial microbial strains. They have achieved thousand-ton pilot-scale production of cellulosic ethanol and went on to establish Wuhan Ruijiakang Biotechnology Co., Ltd., promoting the commercialization of scientific and research findings. As a result, his efforts have contributed to environmental protection, rural economic revitalization and carbon neutrality, cultivating new quality productive forces for high-quality bioeconomic development .
