Professor Joël BELLASSEN, a renowned French Sinologist, was officially appointed as a Visiting Professor at Hubei university on December 4. Zhang Donghui, Member of the University Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President, attended the Appointment Ceremony and presented Professor Bellassen with the Letter of Appointment. Representatives from the Publicity Department of the University Party Committee, the Department of Human Resources, the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, the College of Liberal Arts, and faculty and students participated in the event.

During the ceremony, Zhang Donghui extended a warm welcome to Professor Bellassen on behalf of the university. She expressed her hope that Professor Bellassen would leverage his extensive research expertise, academic wisdom, and professional resources to help the Construction of Chinese Language and Literature Discipline reach new heights.
Professor Bellassen thanked the university for its trust, noting that his connection with Hubei University is a "two-way journey." He committed to contributing his efforts to the ongoing development of the university’s Chinese language disciplines.
Following the ceremony, Professor Bellassen delivered an Academic Lecture titled "Periodization Attempts of the Dualistic View in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL)." Centering on the core question of "whether Chinese is unitary or dualistic," he explored ontological issues in Chinese pedagogy. He introduced the critical topic of the "Division of Language Teaching Units" and used "Hubei University" as a case study to guide the audience through the logic of lexical deconstruction, vividly illustrating the importance of teaching unit classification in practical instruction.

Professor Bellassen is the first PhD Supervisor in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) Methodology in Europe, the first Chief Inspector of Chinese Language Education for the French Ministry of National Education, and the former Vice President of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching (ISCLT). He has been honored with the China Friendship Award for Language and Culture and the Special Book Award of China.
